The Hobby Center’s graphic designer is a visual storyteller who uses their creativity, technical skills, and design expertise to engage, inform, and inspire, while also creating materials that resonate with appropriate target audiences and achieve the Hobby Center’s mission and strategic goals.
This individual can take concepts and ideas and create visual representations, in both print and electronic media.
The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled in every step of the design process, from concept to final deliverable. Proficiency in design software such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Creative Suite, along with a strong understanding of current design principles and trends, typography and color theory is required.
Responsibilities may be modified as needed to meet the organization’s goals.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Excellent design software skills especially in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
• Experience in video, motion graphic and photo editing software
• Experience in management of both digital and print production
• Strong portfolio of illustrations and other graphics
• Proven graphic design skills with 3-5 years of experience or Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields
• Previous experience in project management software is a plus

The Engineering Technician is a critical member of the engineering team responsible for the safe operations and maintenance of the physical plant systems on the Hobby Center premises. They perform routine preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and electrical systems under minimal supervision. They respond to service requests from the facility occupants, while providing exemplary customer service.
Major Functions
• Responds to Facility Service Work Orders from building occupants. Requests may include plumbing, HVAC, lighting, and electrical service calls.
• Completes major/minor repairs and performs in-depth preventative maintenance on equipment being used at primary facility as well as other facility maintenance services that may be assigned.
• Interprets compliance requirements and ensures standardization of work.
• Identifies opportunities for process/system improvements and implements them as they are approved.
• Takes and logs readings from critical equipment and takes appropriate corrective actions before system outage occurs.
• Interprets blueprints and schematic drawings or oral/written instructions to assure completion of work as planned.
• Diagnoses building management/energy management systems for faults and errors.
• Uses tools and equipment that are sophisticated in nature and need to be kept in a calibrated or adjusted state.
• Keeps tools and work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Uses required personal protective equipment while satisfying all work requests.
• Observes and complies with all company safety policies.
• Completes all required work and paperwork within adequate amount of time.
• Serves as primary technical resource in area of expertise.
• Works on and completes all facility team-based goals.
This position will require working 8 hour shifts typically 8am-4pm or 4pm-12am, depending on organizational needs as scheduled among the engineering team. Opportunities for overtime are available depending on event schedules and required coverage.

Box Office Associate

The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is seeking a part time person for employment. The Box Office Associate provides exemplary customer service to our Hobby Center patrons by selling tickets and assisting with any necessary information.
Preferred candidates will have experience in customer service. Knowledge of Ticketmaster and/or Tessitura as well as experience in performing arts box office are a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Answer incoming calls regarding Hobby Center events
- Answer incoming e-mail inquiries
- Sell single tickets and subscriptions at the box office
- Exchange tickets for season subscribers
- Reconcile cash drawer at the end of each shift
- May perform other duties as assigned

The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is seeking part-time staff for seasonal employment. The Floor Captain serves as a liaison between Hobby Center patrons and facility management. Their responsibilities include providing exemplary service to Hobby Center patrons, the orientation and supervision of volunteer ushers and enforcing theater policies at all Hobby Center events. Preferred candidates will have experience in customer service and staff/volunteer supervision. Knowledge and/or experience in performing arts or venue management are a plus.
Candidates should possess an above and beyond work ethic, be a natural leader with an exemplary professional demeanor. In addition, outstanding customer service, organizational management and communication skills to ensure an exceptional guest experience at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts are required. Duties include but are not limited to:
- A leader in all front-of-house event management for all events at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts managing a volunteer staff of 30+ and crowds between 100-2650 guests at any given time.
- Work with various venue staff and vendors, including Backstage, Security, Box Office, resident companies, and concessions.
- Practice and lead patron safety with our staff and volunteers at all times for all venues, from understanding the current ADA policy, to preparing plans for patron access, and managing safety throughout the event.
- Build strong guest relationships through exemplary customer service.
- Complete all paperwork necessary to record and document patron, staff, or volunteer involvement during a performance.
- Maintain all required training including Trained Crowd Manager Certification and CPR certification.
- Attend regular staff meetings which focus on team performance.
