Arts Partners: A presentation of Performing Arts Houston featuring NobleMotion Dance, Musiqa and the University of Houston IUCRC Brain Center
Meeting of Minds is a unique combination of artistic performance and scientific experiment. As the dancers perform to original music and choreography, they will be wearing portable EEG caps that record the electrical signals in their brains. The theme of the thirty-minute dance is “polarization:” the two dancers begin in opposition; in the course of the dance, they arrive at mutual understanding. Meanwhile, the University of Houston’s BRAIN Center team will be monitoring their brainwaves for neural signatures of conflict and cooperation. The visual projections will help to dramatize this, responding in real time to the live EEG data.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the Hobby Center is excited to present a diverse range of free educational field trips to Hobby Center’s Zilkha Hall with the goal of serving 5th grade students in Houston. Through this TEKS-aligned series, 5th grade students are introduced to dance, music and/or theater in ways that are engaging, fun and further their learning and belonging.

This project is supported in part by an award from the Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Mid-America Arts Alliance.
