Show Description

Live at the Founders Club
Presented by the Hobby Center

Live at the Founders Club presents unforgettable live music in an intimate club setting with sweeping views of downtown Houston.

Reencuentros with Cecilia Duarte is a deeply personal musical reflection on memory, heritage, and reconnection through song.

Inspired by musical moments shared with her mother, Duarte revisits the songs and traditions that shaped her artistic voice, celebrating the richness and emotional depth of Latin American music. Rooted in remembrance and storytelling, Reencuentros is both an homage to the past and a vibrant expression of living musical tradition.

The program features beloved 20th-century Latin American songs including Alfonsina y el Mar, Fina Estampa, and Gracias a la Vida, honoring composers such as Chabuca Granda, Violeta Parra, and Julio Jaramillo. Presented in the Founders Club, Reencuentros offers an intimate evening of lyricism, nostalgia, and the enduring beauty of song across generations.

About the Artist

A soloist in the Grammy-winning album Duruflé: The Complete Choral Works, Duarte has been praised by The New York Times as “a creamy voiced mezzo-soprano.” Duarte premiered the role of Renata in the first Mariachi Opera Cruzar la Cara de la Luna with the famous Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, commissioned by Houston Grand Opera in 2010, and taking that production around the world.

Other roles Duarte originated are Renata in El milagro del Recuerdo, Dido in The Queen of Carthage, Jessie Lydell in A Coffin in Egypt, Gracie in A Way Home, Harriet/First Responder in After the Storm, Alicia in Some Light Emerges, and Alma in Boundless, the first episode of Houston Grand Opera’s web opera series Star-cross’d.

Duarte’s discography includes Reencuentros, a compilation of Latin American songs under Reference Recordings label, and Arrorró, an album of lullabies ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st Century. Both albums have been produced by multiple-time Grammy winner Blanton Alspaugh.
