Juilliard String Quartet (Areta Zhulla, violin; Ronald Copes, violin; Molly Carr, viola; Astrid Schween, cello)

With unparalleled artistry and enduring vigor, the Juilliard String Quartet continues to inspire audiences around the world. Founded in 1946 and hailed by The Boston Globe as “the most important American quartet in history,” the ensemble draws on a deep and vital engagement to the classics, while embracing the mission of championing new works, a vibrant combination of the familiar and the daring. Violist Molly Carr is the newest member of the Quartet, praised for her “intoxicating” (New York Times) and “ravishing” (The Strad) performances.

In Houston, the Juilliard Quartet performs romantic works by and Dvořák and Mendelssohn — whose last quartet is a moving tribute to his sister, Fanny — and a new quartet co-commissioned by DACAMERA. An immensely-gifted prodigy, Tyson Davis has been making waves in the music world while still a student at Juilliard, winning the BMI Student Composer Award as well as the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award.

Reviews

The Juilliard String Quartet, in its more than 50 years, has made it a point of honor to approach contemporary pieces with the same care and respect as it would established classics, and to approach antique masterworks with the sense of excitement and adventure it would the newly minted.
