Presented by The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston
The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston’s 70th Anniversary production, H.M.S. Pinafore, is one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular and beloved operas. It is a delightful story of love, duty and a satirical take on the British class system.
Josephine, the daughter of Captain Corcoran, falls in love with the lowly sailor Ralph Rackstraw, however her father has promised her hand to Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty. Josephine is torn between her true love for Ralph, and her duty to honor her father’s wishes.
As is typical of G&S operas, secret revelations and bold declarations lead to an ending where “love levels all ranks”.
Come early to enjoy a pre-show historical lecture with Gilbert & Sullivan expert Hal Gordon 45 minutes prior to each show.
Also, immediately following each performance, Alistair Donkin will host a 15-minute Q&A and farewell in Zilkha Hall.
