Show Description
Music of J. S. Bach; Julius Eastman, Margaret Bond and Caroline Shaw; spirituals arranged by Tyshawn Sorey, Moses Hogan and Davóne Tines.
Davóne Tines, bass-baritone; Lester Green, piano
Heralded as a “singer of immense power and fervor” (Los Angeles Times), the incredibly gifted American bass-baritone Davóne Tines has also established himself as a creative artist of originality, presenting here a highly unusual recital in the form of a mass. In what The New York Times calls “a model of adventurousness and a personal exploration,” Tines brings together works of J.S. Bach; spirituals arranged by Tyshawn Sorey, Moses Hogan and Tines himself; rarely heard songs of Julius Eastman and Margaret Bonds; and a new work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw.
