WHAT? Uniquely Houston ® is an innovative program established by the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts to provide a home venue for Houston’s smaller and mid-sized nonprofit performing arts organizations in the Theater District. This collaboration provides partner organizations with access to technical, marketing, public relations, and operational expertise in addition to assistance with the overall production quality of each presentation. A central element of Houston’s cultural landscape, Uniquely Houston® supports the region’s exceptional artistic talent with programs that appeal to diverse audiences. The Uniquely Houston® series represents a vital component of the Hobby Center’s founding vision and is the reason why Zilkha Hall was built. HOW? The Hobby Center provides a state-of-the-art theater, web-based marketing, ticket fulfillment, educational programming support, on-site marketing, technical and operational support in a package custom designed for each partner organization. The program also fosters the growth of its partner organizations with opportunities to build community program and educational initiatives, combine resources for expanded programming, and access national level administrative and artistic resources through its Arts in Action programs. SETTING THE STANDARD. Uniquely Houston® is a member of Houston's internationally renowned Theater District, the largest such district in the country outside Manhattan’s and includes Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, Alley Theater, Houston Symphony, Society for the Performing Arts, Theater Under The Stars and Broadway in Houston. Through this affiliation, Uniquely Houston® partners benefit from extensively distributed Theater District print and web-based publications. BASICS. Uniquely Houston's® inspiring programming truly provides something for everyone, be it music, dance, theatre, family programs, musical theatre, or spoken word performances. UNPRECEDENTED! Our partner ensembles also produce the annual Discovery Series, a hands-on art exploration for students and families bringing music, dance, and theatre to Zilkha Hall that is both tied to the curriculum and brought to life by performers, as well as the audience. Uniquely Houston® groups also participate in the immensely popular Theater District Open House held every August. This free event which draws over 20,000 people to the Theater District, providing unprecedented and invaluable opportunities for talented, smaller groups, affording high-profile recognition previously reserved solely for bigger budget groups.
